John Weeks Enterprises, Inc. (JWE) was founded in 1974 by John P. Weeks, Sr. He recognized the need for a technically oriented sales organization for the then fledgling CATV industry. The company originally acted only as a manufacturers representative, but upon recognizing the need for a regionally based supplier, started into the distribution business as well. Today, both companies are still in operation with JWE acting as the distribution arm, while the manufacturers representative business operates under the banner of ComSE Sales Corp. (CSC). Both companies operate out of common facilities with common management and sales forces.
JWE, the distribution arm, maintains extensive inventories of telecommunication oriented equipment. This inventory tends to be commodity type equipment or other items that lend themselves to being sold "off the shelf", with little or no customization. The company uses approximately 80% of its 25,000 square feet facility to warehouse and support these types of materials. JWE also provides value added services such as equipment repair and headend services to its customer base.
ComSE Sales Corp. (CSC) d.b.a. John Weeks Enterprises, Inc. operates out of the same facility but maintains no inventories, as it acts solely as an agent for a number of the premier manufacturers in the broadband industry. Among those principals represented are Acterna (RF, HSD and telephony test equipment), Cable Leakage Technologies (automated leakage management systems), Contech Systems (heatless drop and hardline connector protection), Corning Gilbert (drop and hardline connectors), Harmonic (fiber optic transmission and digital simulcast equipment), Lindsay Electronics (RF transmission actives and passives), Monroe Electronics (switching equipment and EAS systems), Novus Technologies (MDU Enclosures), Pencell (pedestals), Radiodetection (underground cable location equipment), Riser Bond Instruments (Time Domain Reflectometers), and 3SAE (fiber optic splicers).
While the target market tends to be oriented toward the CATV industry, the evolution of the industry has necessitated a move toward a broader telecommunications focus. It has always been a desire of the company to provide its principals with a technically oriented, "hands on" type of sales professional.
The sales force currently consists of six outside salespeople and two inside salespeople. Together, these eight individuals have more than one hundred years combined CATV industry sales experience. The company has always believed in "face-to-face" selling and conducts its sales activities in that manner.
